The S.M.A.R.T.E.R. concept is a way to formulate goals that help you better define and accomplish tasks, be it in the company or in private life.

According to the acronym forming the name of the concept, the stated goal should be:

Specific – his understanding should not be a hassle, the wording should be clear, leaving no room for a loose interpretation.

Measurable – formulated in such a way that it is possible to quantify the degree of achievement of the goal, or at least enable explicit “verifiability” of its implementation.

Achievable – an overly ambitious goal undermines faith in achieving it and thus the motivation to achieve it.

Relevant – the goal should be an important step forward, but at the same time it must be a definite value for those who will achieve it.

Time-bound – the goal should have a precisely defined time horizon in which we intend to achieve it.

Exciting – the goal should be exciting, in no case should it be indifferent to the person establishing it; an exciting goal motivates you to achieve it.

Recorded – saving the goal has several functions: we will not forget about it, saving motivates to achieve it - in the event of difficulties or laziness overwhelming us, you can not pretend that the goal never existed when it is saved.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to use SMARTER in practice yet, I encourage you to try this approach. Choose the time intervals that suit you best - day, week, month, quarter, year and start planning.

Just writing an inch on a piece of paper or in a notebook means that from volatile thoughts it materializes in a more precise form on a physical medium, ready for further processing.
